THE FOXHOUND Canine
Foxhounds were the veritably first of the canine races in Great Britain to come under the domination of scientific parentage. There had been hounds of further ancient origin, similar to the Southern Hound and the Bloodhound; but commodity different was wanted towards the end of the seventeenth century to hunt the wild deer that had come kindly
scattered after Cromwell's civil war. The demand was accordingly for a hasty hound than those heretofore known, and people devoted to the chase began to breed it. Head- kindly broad, not peaked like the Bloodhound, but long from the apex to the anterior bones, eyebrows veritably prominent, cheeks cut clean from the eye to the nostril, cognizance set low and in their natural condition thin and shapely, but not large, nose large, jaw strong and position, and small dewlaps, expression fierce, and with the best frequently repellent. Eyes- veritably bright and deeply set, full of determination, and with a veritably steady expression. The look of the Foxhound is veritably remarkable. The neck Should be impeccably clean, with no skin ruffle whatever. The length of the neck is of significance, both for condescending and giving an air of majesty. Shoulders- The blades should be well into the reverse, and should slant, else be wide and strong, enough to meet the arms, which should be long and important. Legs and bases- The bone should be impeccably straight from the arm over, and descend in the same degree of size to the ankles. The knee should be nearly flat and positioned; there should be no wind until coming to the toes, which should be veritably strong, round, cat-shaped, and every toe clean set as it were. Coat- The fleece is hard hair, but short and smooth, the texture is as stiff as bristles but beautifully laid. Color- Belvoir tan, which is brown and black, impeccably combined, with white markings of colorful shapes and sizes. The white should be veritably opaque and clear. Black and white, with tan markings on the head and stifles. Badger pied a kind of slate and white. Lemon pied, light unheroic, and white. Hare pied, a darker unheroic, and white. Height tykes from 23-1/2 to 24 elevation; whimpers from 22 to 22-1/2 elevation.
